As I had\u00a0the seats out and everything\u00a0stripped out of the boat I had a good look at all the ribs and found that the rear\u00a0full width ribs\u00a0 needed replacing along with a couple on the starboard side. So, after a quick call to Dennis at Dartmoor Hardwoods in Princetown I had enough oak to do the job and all the new ribs were steamed in and fixed in the copper rivits and roves.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pegasus18.com\/dinghies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/qp0002032.jpg\" alt=\"qp0002032.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<em>New ribs installed<!--more--><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pegasus18.com\/dinghies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/qp0002031.jpg\" alt=\"qp0002031.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<em>New ribs installed<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Once the new ribs were put in it was time to turn the boat over and strip off all the varnish. I took the boat\u00a0back to bare wood\u00a0and spent a happy couple of weeks applying 2 coats of UPC followed by about 14 coats of Schooner varnish. At least I think it was 14 coats&#8230;..I lost count toward the end.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pegasus18.com\/dinghies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/qp0002018.jpg\" alt=\"qp0002018.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Shiney varnish<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pegasus18.com\/dinghies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/qp0002028.jpg\" alt=\"qp0002028.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Starboard side all finished<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pegasus18.com\/dinghies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/qp0002027.jpg\" alt=\"qp0002027.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Port\u00a0side all finished<\/em><\/p>\n<p>With the hull varnished it was time to sort out the interior, this was given\u00a07 coats of Le Tonkinois and the bildes treated to a few coats of bilge paint.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0decks were in a poor state, despite only having been replaced a few years ago, but they weren&#8217;t varnished underneath and\u00a0had weathered badly.\u00a0A trip\u00a0to\u00a0Robbins of Bristol was called for and I returned with a lovely sheet of Super Eclipse Mahogany Ply\u00a0with an excellent grain.
